BJD overview

BJD or ball jointed dolls have been made throughout the ages, in various materials. A ball jointed doll is a doll that has literally a ball like joint that gives the doll articulated arms, legs and body. I am going to focus more on the modern ball jointed doll that many people know by names such as Dollfies, BJD's and ABJD's.

Dollfie is a particular name for a style of doll that the company Volks http://www.volksusa.com/ has been producing for years, but has been dubbed a name for similar styles of dolls from various companies. Those that are in the hobby of collect dolls use the generic term BJD or ABJD. ABJD simply means asian ball jointed dolls, dolls that are made in asian countries such as China, Korea and Japan. Various forums cater to individuals who are in the hobby and some such as Den of Angels have certain criteria that the dolls discussed on the forum must have to be considered on topic.

The dolls are cast in soft vinyls, hard vinyl and resins, and come in various sizes, prices and colors. You can purchase a doll in several ways as a complete set or blank/nude. A complete set usually entails a costume or outfit, wig or accessories that will come with your doll. Blank or nude is a doll that will come with nothing but the doll, a blank slate for you to customize. Most companies offer additional services such as face ups, body blushing and seam removal. A faceup is simple the face of the doll, or makeup if you will, that is created in variuos medias such as acrylic paints, watercolors and soft pastels to give your doll a more realistic look. Body blushing is the same, it is the application of medias to the body of the doll to give an overall blush or details to the body. Seam removal is simply put the removal of seams on the doll from the mold to give it a more finished look. All these types of services are usually at an additional cost to the doll and at times is not considered a part of the complete set of the doll, these varies by companies.

And that concludes that general information at this time on BJD's.

BBB, Bobobie http://www.bobobie.com/ is a company based in China that creates BJD's for several other companies including several molds of their own. Think Pinkhttp://shop.fashiondoll.nl another company that sells RS dolls that is based in the Netherlands, again I'm not too familar with them so am uncertain of their production/shipping times.

Update as of 11/13/2015 Regarding resin colors. Resinsoul now offers custom resin color and custom match services so you can purchase any of there dolls in pretty much any color now. This is great news as it opens up a whole new world of creativity. Custom match service is if you own a head or body from another company that you want to put with a Resinsoul head or body the will do their best to match the colors so your hybrid may be more successful.
